Privacy policy

This page explains what personal data Press & Fold collects, why, and what rights you have over it. We have kept this in plain language wherever the law allows it. Where precise legal wording is required, we have used it.

Who is responsible for your data

Press & Fold (Austin Bowtell), Zentnerstraße 5, 80798 München, Germany. Contact: info@pressandfold.studio. Full details in our Imprint.

What we collect, and why

Email signup

If you sign up to hear from us, we collect your email address and the date you signed up. We use this to send you updates about the journal and the brand, including a short welcome series when you first join.

Signups go through double opt-in: you'll receive a confirmation email and your address is only added to our list once you confirm it. This means no one can be added to our list without their own action.

We use MailerLite (MailerLite Limited, registered in Ireland) to manage our email list and send these messages. When you sign up, your email address is stored on MailerLite's servers. MailerLite acts as our data processor under a standard data processing agreement, and applies its own security and privacy safeguards, which you can read about at mailerlite.com/legal.

Legal basis: your consent, given when you submit the signup form and confirm via the opt-in email (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send. Unsubscribing removes you from future sends; we keep a record that you unsubscribed, so we don't accidentally re-add you later.

Website analytics

We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how people use this site: which pages get visited, roughly how many people visit, and where they come from. This helps us improve the site rather than guess at what's working.

Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to do this. Where required, this only runs after you've given consent through our cookie banner. You can withdraw consent at any time by adjusting your cookie preferences.

Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), given through the cookie banner.

We have configured Google Analytics to minimise data collection (for example, internal traffic from our own use of the site is filtered out where possible). Google may process this data on servers outside the EU; Google's standard contractual clauses and Google's own data practices apply, details at policies.google.com/privacy.

Contact

If you email us directly, we'll use your email address and whatever you tell us only to respond to you. We don't add direct contact emails to our marketing list unless you separately sign up for that.

Cookies

We use cookies for two purposes: keeping the site working properly, and, where you've consented, understanding site usage through analytics (see above). Strictly necessary cookies that keep the site functioning don't require consent. Analytics cookies only run after you actively consent through our cookie banner. You can change your mind at any time.

Cookie Settings

How long we keep your data

  • Email signups: until you unsubscribe, or until two years of inactivity, whichever comes first.
  • Analytics data: retained according to Google Analytics' standard retention settings, currently 14 months.
  • Direct contact emails: kept only as long as needed to resolve the conversation, then deleted within a reasonable period.

Your rights

Under GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Erase your data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Restrict how we process it.
  • Port your data to another provider, in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interest or for direct marketing.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent. This won't affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

To exercise any of these, email info@pressandfold.studio. We'll respond within one month, as required by law.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Germany, the relevant authority is the Bavarian data protection authority (BayLDA), since Press & Fold is based in Bavaria.

Data security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, and rely on established providers (MailerLite, Google, GitHub Pages) who maintain their own security standards. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we don't ask for or store sensitive data like payment details on this site.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this page if what we collect or how we use it changes. The version here is always the current one. Last updated: June 27th, 2026.
